1.03.1 Data Management : GIS and Database

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer based system with components that provide a link between spatial data (represented with rasters or vectors) and their non-spatial attribute data. In this learning path we will first look at "GIS" as a concept which provides support for spatial and thematic or attribute data.

Question

Path

1. GIS

Mobile GIS as a type of GIS software is worth looking at in this learning path as it provides window for integration of mapping, GIS and positioning of field users via hand-held and mobile devices.

2. Mobile GIS

The subsequent concept we will examine in this learning path is "Non-spatial data" also known in other parlance as "Attribute data".

3. Non-Spatial Data

Spatial database equally known as Geo-database is our net item for discussion which allows a wide variety of users to access large data sets and mange their relations while guaranteeing their integrity.

4. Spatial database

The term "Standards" will be our next point of focus in this learning path in which Geo-webservice is based on.
