Discuss the main properties of passive microwave radiometers

Concepts

  • [PS1-2-2-1-2] Passive Microwave Radiometers
Passive microwave radiometers are radiometers that measures energy emitted at millimetre-to-centimetre wavelengths at 0.15 - 30 cm (frequencies of 1–200 GHz). Example of a sensor: SMOS Microwave Imaging Radiometer with Aperture Synthesis (MIRAS), which aims at measuring land soil moisture and ocean salinity.
