Identify image fusion techniques to fill gaps in image time series caused by clouds and cloud shadow

Concepts

  • [IP2-1] Data fusion
Image fusion is defined as the “combination of two or more different images to form a new image by using a certain algorithm” Data fusion is a well-established research field. Image fusion methods are primarily used for improving the level of interpretability of the input data. Additionally, they can be utilized to address the problem of missing data caused by cloud or shadow contamination in satellite images time series. Image fusion can be performed at pixel-level, feature-level (e.g. land-cover classes of interest), and decision-level (e.g. purpose driven).
