Interpret the effect of a convolution from a given mask and contained weights

Concepts

  • [IP3-6] Neighbourhood analysis (convolution)
In contrast to the point operations used for radiometric modification of image data, techniques for geometric processing are characterized by operations over local neighborhoods of pixels. The result of a neighborhood operation is still a modified brightness value for the single pixel at the center of the neighborhood , however the new value is determined by the brightness of all the local neighbors rather than just the original brightness value of the central pixel alone.
