  • [PP2-3-9] Speckle Formation
A typical “salt-and-pepper” noise-like physical phenomenon that is not a noise but a deterministic property of SAR imagery is the so called speckle. It appears when a resolution cell of a SAR system contains more than one scatterer. In that case, the total scattering from the resolution cell is a coherent sum of the backscatter originating from the different scatterers. In order to reduce this effect, speckle reduction methods can be applied.
