Solid state modern detectors rely on non-metal junction, which can be designed and operated to yield a bandgap energy according to the spectral range (infrared, visible, UV) to be detected. The basic principles of how these devices are designed and fabricated is important to develop and design new sensors useful for the various remote sensing applications.
