[PS1-3-3-1] Sonar

Sonar, also called ultrasonic sensing, is one the principal sensors for mapping sea-floor, i.e. bathymetry. It transmits sound waves through water and records the amount of backscattered energy. It uses frequencies higher than normal hearing. A sonar can be either passive or active. Active sonars are also called echosounders.
