[IP3-4-1-1] Filtering

The goal of filtering is to remove unnecessary components from images (e.g., noise), while emphasizing the necessary ones. In the context of spatial aggregation, low pass filters aim at removing sharp transitions in the image intensities (high spatial frequencies) and thereby focus the information content of the image on a coarser scale level.
