[GS3] Use of geospatial information

Geospatial Information used in Government agencies and public authorities at local, state, and federal levels produce and use geospatial data for many activities, including provision of social services, public safety, economic development, environmental management, and national defence. Public participation in governing, empowered by geospatial technologies, offers the potential to strengthen democratic societies by involving grassroots community organizations and by engaging local knowledge. The private sector covers a broad range of areas of opportunity. With continued advancements in technology, greater awareness of its advantages as a powerful decision support tool the use of geospatial information use in the private sector needs to be discussed.
