Absorption of electromagnetic radiation

Absorption is the process in which electromagnetic radiation is converted in an object or medium into other forms of radiation (e.g. heat, or fluorescence) or causing chemical reactions (e.g. photosynthesis). Absorption of EM radiation leads to an increase in the object’s temperature. In equilibrium the total amounts of absorbed and emitted radiation at all wavelength are equal and the object’s temperature is constant.
